President Muhammadu Buhari says there is a huge amount of foreign currency flooding the country intended to influence the outcome of the general election beginning on Saturday.

According to Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Buhari raised the alarm during the federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
Shehu said the president accused some politicians of flouting money laundering regulations in their desperate bid to capture political power.
He, however, commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for successfully tracking the money in “millions of United States dollars”.
According to him, the EFCC success followed the presidential directive to investigative agencies to probe a number of high profile cases.
He reassured the nation of his administration’s determination to wage relentless war against money laundering and terrorist financing.
Buhari also reiterated his appeal to Nigerians, especially politicians, to place the interest of the “country above all others, as they troop out to cast their votes in the coming elections’’.
Shehu’s statement comes hours after the EFCC alerted Nigerians that there were fake dollar notes in circulation.

The wife of the president Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has asked Nigerians as they go to the polls on Saturday, to decide whether the poor should become poorer and the rich richer or a society where the gap begins to be reduced.

She stated this on Thursday while presenting empowerment packs to 1,250 women and youths from the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.
In a statement by her media adviser Adebisi, Olumide Ajayi, quoted Mrs. Buhari, as saying that poverty is one of the indices that encourage people to embrace vices like terrorism, kidnapping, and begging.
Earlier, the Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Dr. Nasir, Mohammed Argungu, disclosed since 2014, the revenue allocation to the agency had not changed.
However, the agency was able to train 861,234 women and youths from 2015 to date, compared to 4,832 trained in 2014/15
The programme was organised by NDE in collaboration with The Future Assured initiative of the wife of the president and Defence and Police officers Wives Association (DEPOWA)
The beneficiaries who were drawn from the six local government areas of Abuja went home with cosmetology-starter packs worth N40.000 cash.

2019 Election: NDLEA Arrests Man With 244 PVCs In Akwa Ibom

The agency said the suspected PVC thief had been handed over to INEC for further investigation, while others caught with hard drugs had been charged to court.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced the arrest of one Okon Bassey in possession of 244 Permanent Voter Cards in Akwa Ibom State and dislodged 35 drug joints and hotspots in Kano State ahead of the elections.
A cash sum of N310,000 was recovered from the suspect who was arrested in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The Akwa Ibom command of the NDLEA also arrested 120 suspected hard drug dealers found to be in possession of 51kg of cannabis, 259gm of heroin, 17gm of cocaine, 500gm of Tramadol Diazepam and Polypro.
The agency said the suspected PVC thief had been handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission for further investigation, while others caught with hard drugs had been charged to court.
Abdallah said, “Despite the challenges being faced by our officers and men in terms of manpower and logistics, they have performed creditably in clearing political thugs and drug addict’s hideout within a few days of its sting operation.
“Only last Sunday, four officers and men of the agency were murdered by suspected drug dealers in Ifon, Ondo State while on a search of drugs being transported from Edo State to the Northern part of the country.
“Operatives of the agency in Akwa Ibom State have arrested one Okon Bassey and recovered from him 244 Permanent Voter Cards belonging to different people and a sum of N310,000. This suspect was arrested at Mbo Local Government Area.
“These suspects were arrested during the pre-election raid by operatives of the NNDLEA in order to reduce acts of violence during the elections.
The efforts of our eagle eyed-officers also paid off with the arrest of one Joy Adams, a notorious heroin dealer in Akwa Ibom state for allegedly being in possession of 239gm of heroin.”

Almost a year after the World Cup in Russia, the designer of Super Eagles traditional outfit to the tournament is yet to be paid.

Gt Stitches, the designer of the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s ceremonial attire to the Russia 2018 World Cup, on Thursday accused the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of failing to pay for the outfit, nearly eight months after the Mundial ended.
The clothing brand’s CEO, Esimaje Awani, made the allegation in a post on GT Stitches’ Instagram page.

Awani, who did not say how much the deal was worth, accused NFF President Amaju Pinnick of avoiding him over the debt.
He said: “My brother Amaju has stopped picking my calls cos (sic) of this money. Someone at the office told me court is my only option!! What a shame!!”
Responding to a critic who criticised him for “coming out now to spill this”, Awani challenged the NFF to deny his claims.
He said: “Please, let NFF come out and say their part! I have not been paid period. Some persons might not be patient as I was on the subject matter.”

Fake Soldiers Busted By Vigilante Members Ahead Of Elections In Enugu

According to reports, the fake military men alleged to be working for a political party, were nabbed by vigilante members on Thursday night in Iheaka town, Nsukka area of the state.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has confirmed that the presidential and national assembly elections will proceed on Saturday February 23 as rescheduled.

Yakubu made the confirmation on Friday when he kicked off the final edition of the commission’s daily media briefing to update the public on its preparedness for the election.
There had been fears that the losgistical issues that prompted the postponement may not have been resolved by now, however Yakubu declared on Friday: “Tomorrow is election day”.
“A total of 72,775,502 citizens who have collected their Permanent Voter Cards are eligible to cast their ballots,” he said. “Nigerians will elect a President out of a total of 73 candidates nominated by their politcal parties. Similarly, voters will choose 109 senators out of 1,880 candidates and 360 members of the House of Representatives out of 4,631 candidates.”

Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari has said INEC will have to explain the reason why it had to postpone the elections by one week.

President Muhammadu Buhari has suggested that the Independent National Electoral Commission would be made to explain the “real reasons” behind its “incompetence” after all the scheduled elections must have been concluded, Punch Metro reports.
Speaking at the national caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the President insisted that the electoral body had no reason to postpone the elections, considering the kind of support it had received from government.
Buhari said:-
“Definitely, the reason why such incompetence manifested has to be explained to the nation. After the elections, we have to know exactly what happened and who is responsible.
“Otherwise, our efforts to make sure that this system is acceptable would have been eroded.
“The Constitution and the law protected INEC. But they must not take us for granted.
“If, for example, the National Assembly refused to approve what they wanted, INEC would have had moral reasons why they couldn’t perform.
“If the time of four years of election was not constitutionally obeyed by the government, INEC would have a case.
“But we don’t understand the reason for this inefficiency and we have to go into details after the election to find out who is responsible.”

Some Nigerians have been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), in a crackdown on foreigners residing in the country without proper documentation.

The crackdown has also led to the arrest of landlords and property owners who have rented out to non-Ghanaians with no immigration status.
According to the GIS, these rented properties and residences have become the haven for cyber fraudsters and other criminals.
“The use of such properties by persons who are illegally residing in the country make such owners liable of the offence of harboring an illegal migrant, as stipulated in Section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573),” said a release signed by Comptroller-General, Kwame Asuah Takyi.

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned those planning to snatch ballot boxes during the elections as he said that those caught doing that will pay with his or her live.

He said that he has directed security agencies to identify hot spots and be ready to move should they suspect any attempts to cause problems by thugs across the country irrespective of party affiliations.
He said that he was told about the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to postpone the last Saturday election at quarter to 5 in the morning of the elections.
He said that INEC had all the time and resources, didn’t have to wait six hours to the elections to announced postponement.
“Definitely, INEC must explain to Nigerians what happened, the constitution and the law protects INEC but they must not take us for granted.
“If we had failed to provide all what INEC wanted, then we would have been held responsible.

On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, residents of Marsabit, Kenya, shocked the world by giving politicians a taste of their own medicine.

The enraged local who attended a scheduled meeting with their leaders served muddy drinking water as refreshment.
The dignitaries who were comfortably seated on plastic chairs had their bottled muddy water carefully placed on the ground.

CCT Orders Arrest Of Suspended CJN, Walter Onnoghen

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest and produce before it on Friday, the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, TheNation has reported.

CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar gave the directive on Wednesday while granting the prosecution’s request that Onnoghen must be compelled to attend the tribunal and plead to the charge of breach of code of conduct (non-declaration of assets) pending against him.
Umar, in a ruling, after taking argument from Aliyu Umar (SAN), for prosecution, and Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) for the defence, granted the request of the prosecution for the issuance of a bench warrant against Onnoghen.
The CCT Chairman subsequently scheduled next Friday for his (Onnoghen’s) arraignment

Niger Delta Militants Reveal The Presidential Candidate They Endorse

Militants and ex-militants in the Niger Delta region have endorsed the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

They announced this at the end of a workshop in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, on Wednesday. The militants said they believe that the interest of the region would be well served under Buhari.
“The Niger Delta is the most important region of Nigeria and also produces over 2 million barrels of oil daily which is the economic bedrock of the country which therefore makes peace a pre-requisite for that sustainable development of the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole,” they said in a statement issued after the meeting.
“Participants agreed and that the overall interest of the Niger Delta should be the guarding principle of all political considerations in the run-up to the 2019 presidential elections.
“Participants observed that since politics is a game of interest, and having realised that the interest of the Niger Delta would be better served by the incumbent president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
“Participants also considered other presidential candidates in the 2019 presidential elections and unanimously endorsed Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16, presidential elections and urged all leaders and ex-agitators to vote en-mass for him.
“Participants also agreed and resolved to pursue peace during and after the elections and also assist all relevant security agencies to achieve and maintain peace in the region.”
Ebikabowei Ben, a militant leader better known as Boyloaf, was nominated to engage directly with Buhari after the elections “with a view of pursing the collective interest of all ex-agitators and the Niger Delta as a whole”.

Why PDP Sued INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the All Progressives Congress, APC has been dragged to court by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over the alleged participation of Foreigners in Nigeria’s Elections.


This suit is coming shortly after the participation of governors from Niger Republic at a rally of the APC in Kano state recently.
The PDP also joined in the suit as first and third defendants are the Nigerian Immigration Service and the minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau.
The party is asking the court to determine whether foreigners can participate either directly or indirectly in the general elections in Nigeria with regards to the provision of section 12 of the electoral Act 2010 and paragraph 2 of the 2019 INEC regulations and guidelines.
It also demanded to know whether it is contrary to Nigerian law and public policy for foreigners to participate in the campaign rally of a Nigerian political party.
The opposition party is requesting for the court to declare that foreigners cannot participate either directly or indirectly in the general elections of Nigeria with regard to the provision of section 12 of the electoral act 2010.
The PDP also wants the court to issue an order directing the Nigerian Immigration Service and the minister of interior to ensure that foreigners do not participate in the 2019 general elections

Dont Be Used For Election Violence – Buhari Begs Nigerian Youths

President Muhammadu Buhari has made a special appeal to Nigerian youths to refuse to be used for violent acts as the country prepares to vote at the polls.

The president made this special appeal while speaking at the final signing of a peace accord with other presidential candidates in Abuja on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
The 76-year-old urged youths to cooperate with all relevant agencies to ensure violence-free elections that’ll not jeopardise the future of the country.
“I am making a special appeal to our young people: Do not allow yourselves to be used to cause violence. Please eschew all forms of violence and cooperate with all the relevant agencies during these elections.
“We will vote according to Parties, but in the end, the only real Party is Nigeria, our country. Our elections are important only to the extent that they make her strong. Let us do our best and ask God to bless us and our country,” he said.
The president also appealed to all Nigerians to use the elections as an opportunity to strengthen beliefs in a united country and prepare it for development.
He noted that he ensured that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was provided with all necessary resources to perform its job, and that security agencies are well aware of the importance of neutrality to the conduct of a free, fair and successful election.
He said, “I call on all Nigerians to contribute to the building of a viable polity by more active participation well beyond the mere casting of votes. Elections by themselves do not constitute democracy. It is the spirit of citizenship engagement that utilises the energy of citizens towards the attainment of good governance.”
On signing the peace accord, the president said it’s a commitment by all the candidates to ensure violence-free elections that’ll keep the country safe.
“We, the Presidential candidates are here to sign and commit ourselves to do all that is possible to ensure the success of the elections but most importantly to accept the final outcome. I appeal to my fellow contestants to commit to these ideals so as to keep our country and people safe.”
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, was among the presidential candidates that signed the peace accord at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, PDP, have accused each other of making plans to disrupt the elections with violence in the event the results don’t go in their favour.
